As Asiata's coach said "A man among boys"...

Dawgs add two more as we head into final stretch...

As the final days of recruiting wind themselves down, the Washington Huskies have found themselves rapidly filling their class. With six commitments since Thursday, this class is shaping up to be one of the best hauls in recent memory for the Dawgs.

Last night, word came out of Hawaii that 6-5, 290 lb offensive tackle Paulay Asiata, out of Saint Louis High in Honolulu, gave his word to Washington coaches. Asiata is considered by many to be the top prospect out of the Aloha state.

Late Tuesday evening, Gonzaga Prep of Spokane, WA running back Bishop Sankey gave his verbal after spending the afternoon with head coach Steve Sarkisian. Sankey, a longtime commit to in-state rival Washington State, becomes the last of the top Washington high schoolers to decide to don the Purple and Gold helmets next season.

Coach Sarkisian said from day one on the job that he wanted to "put up a fence around the state and not let anyone get out". He has done just that.  If they manage to get QB Jacoby Brissett, out of Palm Beach, FL, this class will be one of the best in the country. Although it is a long shot, I wouldn't count this hard working coaching staff out just yet.

Quick update on Husky class *As of this moment*

As we know, things seem to be changing every time we look at this point in recruiting season. Most of these guys have been recruited by these schools for going on two years now. Now, the time is finally winding down and it will all be over. Most of them will slap their signature on that LOI Come next Wednesday, hit send on the fax machine, and the long and tedious process of recruitment will be finalized. So, as of 12:40 EST 10 days before signing day, here is what the Washington husky class (unofflicially of course) looks like:

OFFENSE

QB Derrick Brown
Vista murrieta HS
Murrieta, CA
(The newest commit, as of late Sunday afternoon. The only QB in the class so far after Joeseph Gray of Dorsey High gave a verbal to San Jose State early Friday. Brown had been a verbal to Utah since October.)

WR Marvin Hall
Susan Miller Dorsey HS
Los Angeles, CA
(Late steal for this class)

WR Kasen Williams
Skyline HS
Sammamish, WA
(One of the highest rated prospects in the country, let alone this class.)

OG Siosifa Tufunga
Jordan HS
Long Beach, CA

FB Dezden Petty
Gardena HS
Gardena, CA

TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins
Gig Harbor HS
Gig Harbor, WA
(One of the top-ranked TE's in the country, figures to have immediate impact at a position that is looking for big time improvement.)

TE/DE Jarett Finau
Juanita HS
Kirkland, WA

WR Josh Perkins
Gahr HS
Cerritos, CA

WR Jamal Jones
Graham Kapowsin HS
Graham, WA

T Dexter Charles
Stanwood HS
Stanwood, WA
(One of the earliest in-state players to commit)

OT Stephan Nembot
Montclair School
Van Nuys, CA
(Originally from Cameroon, this late bloomer could eventually end up at DE once he bulks up and becomes more athletic. Switched verbal from WSU to UW.)

OT Paulay Asiata
Saint Louis HS
Honolulu, HI
(Considered by many to be the top prospect coming out of the Aloha state. At 6-5 290 already has size needed to play tackle.)

RB Bishop Sankey
Gonzaga Prep
Spokane, WA
(Longtime verbal to in-state rival Washington State. Has great speed, May have opportunity as a return man as Freshman.)

DEFENSE

S James Sample
Grant Union HS
Sacramento, CA

T Danny Shelton
Auburn HS
Auburn, WA
(Can play either side of the ball,  prefers the defensive side.)

DB Kameron Jackson

(Only true corner committed at this time*CORRECTION* Was only true corner at time of original post)

LB Thomas Tutogi
Southwestern JC
Chula, Vista CA
(Top rated MLB recruit out of the JUCO ranks. Already enrolled and taking classes at UW so he will not count against the numbers in this class.)

OLB Corey Waller
Polytechnic HS
Long Beach, CA
(DE in HS out of the 3-point stance. Projects as an OLB.)

OLB Scott Lawyer
Oak Grove HS
San Jose, CA
(Very sure tackler, with excellent vision.)

DE/LB Connor Cree
Skyline HS
Sammamish, WA
(Will be looked at at both DE and OLB positions)

LB Matthew Lyons
Susan Miller Dorsey HS
Los Angeles, CA
( A bit undersized, but has a very high football IQ, and loves to hit people.)

DE Taniela Tupou
Archbishop Murphy HS
Everett, WA
( Was the very first in-state commit for the class of 2011)

S Evan Zeger
Bishop Gorman HS
Las Vegas, NV
(Originally attended Skyline HS in Sammamish, WA)

DB Marcus Peters

Oakland, CA
(The speedy DB from oakland made his decision public, literally just a little while ago.)

So the Journey begins...

As some of you may know, I recently got a job at the Orlando Sentinel doing research in the college football department. Being as I someday want to become a sports writer, it was suggested to me that I start up a blog so I can continue to write, share my thoughts and stories, and give people an inside look and view point on things that I am working on. So that is exactly what this blog will offer.

In the next couple of weeks I will be doing a lot of research while I am covering national letter of intent day for college football, which is on February 2nd, specifically for the Washington huskies. That is where I will begin this blog. As I do my research, I will break down the recruits, discuss guys who may still commit, or guys that may back out of a commitment. I will try and keep an updated feed come Feb. 2nd as the letters and news rolls in.

Now, I know that there are a lot of sports blogs, news outlets, and other forms of sports media out there on the web these days. So many to choose from and not enough time to see them all! All that I ask is that you give me a chance, and you continue to check out the blog for at least a little bit. If after a few entries you don't like what you see, then you probably never will, and that is perfectly fine.  I want this to become a fun place for hot topics, debates, great stories, and the occasional update on my life (which I don't expect all of my readers to really care about!).

With all of that said, please take the time to enjoy the space,  leave comments, and I will see you more frequently beginning in the next couple of weeks!
